Domestic Electrical Installer Course
The Gas Safe Registration Defined Scope Electrical Scheme has been designed to enable Gas Safe Registration registered gas installers to meet their requirements under the Building Regulations "Part P" to show their competence, and enable them to join an approved self certification scheme i.e. Gas Safe Registration "Part P" scheme. Operatives who are not Gas Safe Registration registered engineers and who carry out work on electrical installations can also sit this assessment if they wish to join the ELECSA "Part P" competent persons scheme as a defined scope operative.
DEI The Domestic Electrical Installer (DEI) Training and Assessment package covers electrical work as outlined in the Part P Building Regulation (April 2013) and BS7671:2008 (2011) 17th Edition Wiring Regulations.

The DEI course is for operatives who carry out work on domestic electrical installations as a secondary task to their main role or who wish to offer full electrical installations in domestic as a stand-alone task.

NB: From the 6th April 2013 the qualification entry requirements for companies or businesses wishing to join a Part P Competent Person Scheme (CPS) changed. The relevant change is for the designated qualifying supervisor (QS). In a larger organisation, the QS will be responsible for the competence and work of all installers carrying out electrical installations. Sole traders are both the QS and installer. The QS must hold as minimum the "level 3 NVQ Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installation Work in Dwellings" or equivalent. For large businesses, the Part P DEI qualification can still be used for who are under the direction of the qualifying supervisor. Sole traders must comply with the qualification entry requirement detailed above. For operatives who do not hold the Level 3 NVQ or equivalent detailed above there is still an entry route that will require a more in depth on site assessment by the CPS, please speak to your CPS for their entry requirements. You will be required to hold as a minimum the QCF qualification BS7671:2008 17th Edition Wiring Regulations.
The DEI defined scope course is suitable for experienced operatives who carry out electrical work as a secondary task i.e. heating installers, bathroom and kitchen fitters and builders or whose main role is domestic electrical installations or maintenance and who wish to carry out domestic electrical installations, including installing new power or lighting circuits.
